Description
Your reel is your résumé. It becomes critical to the advancement of your career. But the quality of your work is only part of it. The relationships you build with the people around you matter enormously. So does the equity you build with people over time — how you work on a team, how collaborative you are, how committed you are and how much you contribute. The type of company you work for can also make a big difference. A small entrepreneurial company can have a very different culture and set of challenges from a larger business or one owned by a holding company. Understanding those differences can help you think about the kind of environment that works for you. As you progress, the skills required of you change. You might become a manager and suddenly find yourself managing people who were previously your peers. Now you're having salary conversations, developing people's careers and making decisions that affect other people. At a more senior level, you may be deciding salaries across a department, negotiating for resources with senior management and being challenged on the productivity of your team. You're responsible for hiring people and sometimes letting people go. You may also become more client-facing. That requires learning how to communicate with clients, read a room and represent the company you work for. As a VFX Supervisor, you may be on set making important production decisions where you need confidence in your judgment. I spent 30 years navigating these different stages myself, moving from artist to VFX Supervisor, department head and eventually Managing Director. This package gives you the opportunity to work with someone who understands those experiences firsthand. We can look at where you are in your career, what you're facing and where you want to go next. I can coach you through those decisions and, when useful, share what I learned from my own experience. Ultimately, your ability and the quality of your work remain fundamental. But as your career develops, how you work with people and the skills you develop around your craft can make an enormous difference to where your career takes you.

Animation & CGI Leadership Coach | 30 Years in Creative Industries
I’ve spent 30 years in the visual effects and creative industries, starting as an artist and progressing to Managing Director of multi-million-dollar studios, leading organizations of 100–200+ people. I’ve been responsible for P&L, business growth, operations, clients and people, including helping grow Harbor’s advertising business by 42% over approximately three years. As Head of The Mill’s New York 2D department, I led 45+ artists and achieved a 98.2% employee retention rate over five years. I know firsthand what it’s like to move from artist to manager, learn to lead people, develop business acumen and eventually run a company. Much of my career has focused on hiring and developing talent, building cohesive teams and creating strong cultures. Today I’m an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and iPEC Certified Professional Coach (CPC), helping people think clearly about what matters and decide what to do next.
