Work with Hector

About

I work with entrepreneurs across the full arc of building a business—from shaping an early idea into a viable model to navigating the financial and strategic decisions that come with growth. At the earliest stages, that means helping founders refine the concept, understand the customer, test the economics, develop the business model, establish pricing, build projections, determine capital needs, and put the right financial and operating foundation in place. As the company develops, the work shifts toward managing cash, improving profitability, evaluating growth opportunities, preparing for financing, allocating capital, and making decisions with a clearer understanding of what the numbers are actually saying. I am equally comfortable working with someone who has an idea and needs to determine whether there is a real business behind it, a founder preparing for their first sale or financing conversation, or an established owner trying to understand what is driving—or limiting—the next stage of growth. My role is to bring structure to the process, challenge assumptions, connect strategy to the economics of the business, and help founders build companies that are financially sound and positioned to grow. I help founders and small-business owners understand their numbers, access capital, and make better decisions as they build and scale their companies. My work sits at the intersection of financial strategy, entrepreneurship, and founder development. As a Fractional CFO, I advise business owners on cash flow, profitability, forecasting, working capital, debt capacity, capital readiness, and growth strategy. Before moving into fractional CFO work, I spent five years at JPMorgan Chase working directly with business owners and evaluating companies through a lender’s lens. I also bring extensive experience in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. I have served as a small-business consultant, finance coach, founder mentor, business counselor, accelerator facilitator, and advisory-board member through organizations including SCORE, EforAll, Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute, SEA Change, The DEC Network, Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Thornton Economic Development, DAV Patriot Boot Camp, McFerrin Center for Entrepreneurship, Mi Casa Resource Center, and Bunker Labs. Across these programs, I have worked directly with entrepreneurs on business models, financial strategy, cash-flow management, capital access, lender readiness, pricing, growth planning, and pitch development. I’m particularly interested in helping founders move from “I have an idea or a growing business” to “I understand the economics of this company, know what needs to happen next, and can clearly communicate that story to lenders, investors, partners, and stakeholders.” My background gives me a perspective that is difficult to replicate: Founder side: Fractional CFO and business advisor Capital side: Commercial banking, credit analysis, lending and debt structuring Program side: Founder coaching, accelerator facilitation and entrepreneurship ecosystem engagement Leadership side: Former U.S. Army Infantry Officer I hold an MBA from Rice Business and am currently completing a Master of Accounting at UNC Kenan-Flagler. I work with startups, established small businesses, accelerators, incubators, SBDCs, CDFIs, economic-development organizations, and entrepreneurship programs that need practical financial expertise and founder-focused business advising. If you’re building a company—or building a program that helps entrepreneurs build companies—I’d be glad to connect.

Hector’s Transitioning from the Military Qualifications

Coaches professionally

Experience level: Associate

As a former Army officer, Rice MBA, current UNC Master of Accounting student, and business leader with experience at JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and as a Fractional CFO, I understand both the military transition and the civilian business world. I help transitioning service members turn their experience into a clear next step, whether that means building a civilian career, starting a business, or making smarter financial decisions along the way.

Why do I coach?

Coaching matters to me because some of the biggest jumps in my own career came from people who challenged my thinking, helped me see blind spots, and gave me practical guidance when I was navigating something new. I experienced that in the military, in banking, and again as I moved deeper into entrepreneurship and advisory work. That experience shaped how I coach founders today. I don’t believe entrepreneurs need someone to simply tell them what to do. They need someone who will ask the right questions, help them make sense of the numbers, pressure-test their assumptions, and give them the confidence to make better decisions. What I enjoy most is helping a founder move from uncertainty to clarity—whether that means improving cash flow, preparing for capital, refining a business model, or simply figuring out the next best move. Coaching gives me the opportunity to pass along the same kind of perspective and support that made a difference in my own development.
