About

I am a medical research coach for medical students, graduates, and early-career researchers, with seven years of research experience and 34 people personally coached in research. I help you turn an initial idea into a focused research question, develop a feasible study plan, critically appraise the literature, and strengthen a manuscript you have written. We can also work through journal feedback and prepare clear, thoughtful responses to peer reviewers. I have authored and coauthored more than 100 publications, with work published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, and The Lancet. My research background includes a dermatology research fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and a visiting scholarship in dermatology at the University of Utah. Our sessions can focus on: • Refining a research question and defining a realistic project scope. • Choosing a feasible study design and critically reviewing the evidence. • Improving the structure, clarity, and scientific argument of your manuscript. • Interpreting peer-review feedback and planning a revision. • Building research skills alongside medical school or clinical training. I hold an MD and an MSc in Medical Education and have mentored medical students since 2015. I am a PGY-2 internal medicine resident at Temecula Valley Hospital / Southwest Healthcare MEC in California, an Adjunct Associate Lecturer at UNSW, and Adjunct Faculty at the American Canadian School of Medicine. My approach combines clinical perspective, research experience, and teaching. I also offer USMLE Step 2 CK, AMC MCQ, and OET coaching as secondary services. I scored 265 on Step 2 CK, have passed Step 1 and Step 3, and have coached 13 USMLE learners over three years. I have four years of AMC coaching experience and have coached 11 AMC learners and 57 OET learners. Book a free 15-minute intro to discuss your research goals, your current project, and whether my approach is a good fit.

Preparing for Step 2 CK? I help medical students and international medical graduates work through difficult clinical vignettes, strengthen clinical reasoning, and build a focused study plan. Sessions can target the topics you find hardest: we review the clues in a question, why each answer choice does or does not fit, and how to approach the next similar case. My strongest fit is Step 2 CK and internal medicine. I scored 265 on Step 2 CK, have passed Step 1 and Step 3, and am a PGY-2 internal medicine resident in California. I hold an MD and an MSc in Medical Education, with academic teaching appointments at UNSW and the American Canadian School of Medicine. I have coached 13 USMLE learners over three years and have mentored medical students since 2015. Why do I coach?

My research coaching brings together medical research, clinical training, an MSc in Medical Education, and academic teaching experience. I help learners understand the reasoning behind research decisions, from shaping a question and appraising evidence to communicating findings and responding to peer review. Having mentored medical students since 2015, I bring practical perspective to developing research skills alongside medical school and clinical training.
