About
I grew up in a family that taught people how to keep other people alive. Both my parents are physicians. My mother is a pediatrician, my father an emergency physician who worked the Albania-Kosovo border with war refugees. Our family trips were training trips. By the time I was ten I was running skill stations at tactical medicine courses, teaching tourniquets to grown men twice my size. The point was never that I was precocious. The point was that the method was simple enough for a ten year old to teach. That has shaped how I approach almost everything since. Most of what looks impossible is a sequence nobody has broken down for you yet. Before medical school I was an ocean lifeguard and an EMT. I did street medicine and volunteered doing global health work with an NGO at the U.S.-Mexico border in as well as field research in rural northern India. I am a Wilderness First Responder. I still surf, and I help run outdoor programming for my community, mostly getting people into mountains and water they assumed were not for them. Now I am a fourth year medical student going into emergency medicine. My current research is on head injury in big wave surfers, the people who get held under, surface, and paddle back out. Here is what I have learned mentoring premeds. Most of you already have the pieces. Hours, a score, a lab, an experience you have never once said out loud in the right order. What is missing is the line running through them. I am equally interested in whether you get in this cycle as in the next decade you are building toward, because getting in without knowing why is its own kind of trouble later. You are not assembling a résumé. You are becoming someone strangers will have to trust on the worst day of their life.

I've built my path to medicine on real work. I've been an ocean lifeguard and EMT, a scribe, and provided relief medicine at the border, worked global health in India, and trained in tactical medicine since childhood. These weren't resume line items. They shaped how I understand what medicine actually is and who belongs in it. I know the application process from the inside because I've lived it. I've written personal statements that work. I've navigated research projects and built a track record. I'm currently conducting grant-funded brain injury research at UCLA and splitting my clinical time between emergency medicine rotations and mentoring premeds. I've also been through the entire cycle from admission to residency rank lists which means I understand not just how to get in, but what happens after you do and what matters for your next step. What I bring to coaching is pattern recognition earned through doing the work myself, not theories about what committees want. I know how to help you articulate what you've actually done in a way that's credible and compelling. I mentor premeds regularly because I'm invested in people who are serious about medicine getting there. That same investment shapes how I work with applicants: clarity over hype, authenticity over tactics, building an application that reflects who you actually are.

Why do I coach?
The path into medicine runs on unwritten rules. Some students inherit them. Someone at the dinner table tells them which experiences matter, which ones are noise, and how to talk about both. Everyone else guesses. They spend years stacking hours and scores in the dark, then find out too late that nobody was going to explain how the pieces were supposed to fit. That's the "hidden curriculum." I have watched talented people nearly walk away from medicine over that gap. Not because they lacked ability or commitment, but because no one sat across from them and said: here is what you have, here is what it means, here is what comes next. I coach because that conversation should not depend on who is in your network, where you were raised, if your parents had been to college, or what the family business was. The part I love most is the moment it clicks. A student who came in apologizing for a "weak" application starts describing the same experiences with conviction, because now they understand why those experiences mattered. Nothing on paper changed. They did, and now they can communicate it. I also coach because I think of every student as a future colleague. The premed I work with this year is the resident I may hand a patient to in a decade. Helping them arrive clear about who they are and why they chose this is not a side project. It is part of the same work.

Interviewer
I originated a prospective study of brain injury in big wave surfers, building the protocol from concept through IRB approval during my Discovery Year, and now serve as co-investigator under my faculty mentor from the department of neurology. The work secured competitive AAN Medical Student Research Scholarship funding and collected data from 20 participants across 203 sessions using accelerometry, validated concussion assessment (SCAT6), and wearable biometrics. We have a manuscripts in submission and another in preparation for peer-reviewed publication, an oral presentation accepted to the International Neurotrauma Society conference (Cartagena, Oct 2026), and a British Journal of Sports Medicine submission.
