About
Landing my first software job allowed me to get out of poverty, travel the world, and become independent from one country's politics or economic trends. I went to a residential high school where the focus was math and science. I then went to college for engineering. Yes, I did all those things that you're supposed to do for a good career. I'm happy to say that "it worked." By 23, I had the freedom to explore what I felt I’d missed growing up. Around that time, I began coaching informally because many people wanted remote jobs but didn't know how to actually get there. Simply put, nothing gives me greater joy today than helping you land YOUR life-changing job.

10+ Software Engineering clients
William has helped clients get into these companies:
I've helped fellow software engineers, including those with higher titles or more years in age, land better offers and higher salaries. I've also coached students through the long haul, from SAT anxiety to negotiating full-time offers at Wells Fargo and IBM. If you genuinely want to improve your life, I'll work with you through whatever challenge you bring and whatever challenges inevitably come up. I work as a senior engineer, interview software engineering candidates, and regularly interview for real positions myself. That keeps me current on the job, cognizant of the interviewer's lens, and keenly aware of what YOU face in today's market. I bring this rare combination of all three perspectives into every one of our sessions. Throughout my career, I've built products in law, tax, finance, and biotech. I have said 'no' to far more companies than 'yes.' Above all, I've learned to turn technical optimizations into revenue for my clients. Now I help you turn your skills into higher earnings.

Why do I coach?
I grew up in a single-parent household, in poverty. As an East Asian, I quickly learned that society liked drawing a box around me and that box would just keep me poor and wanting to belong to causes that didn't pertain to my interests. But there’s power in being the underdog. Your skill is forged in reality, and reality is the only constant. Inheritances run out. Bodies break. Looks fade. Political power shifts. A sheltered person withers once their safety net disappears. I coach because I love helping others that remind me of younger versions of me. I’m also practical. I know it takes money to live as freely and nomadically as I do today, and I take real pride in seeing people I’ve coached buy their first plane ticket on a whim to visit me somewhere in the world.

Science Applications • Developed automated image detection and image splitting code in Python, automating a manual process that previously took hundreds of work hours per month across teams. • Developed image stitching algorithms, fixing previously 'discarded' coverslips that cost tens of thousands of dollars to reprocess. Software Engineering • Created data pipelines in AWS (S3, EC2, Batch, Lambda) to automate petascale image transfer and image processing, scaling down data losslessly that normally only lives on supercomputers used by scientists. • Fixed various intertwined frontend flows in Javascript/Typescript, addressing direct complaints by large pharma clients. • Wrote various scripts/notebooks with SQL Alchemy ORM to edit millions of rows in PostgreSQL databases and AWS S3, cleaning or migrating data that regularly belonged to 100% of the user base. Machine Learning • Developed Pubmed Scraper that indexed 35 Million articles, then indexed the embeddings in a Pinecone vector database for LLM usage, enabling GPT-like chat on an entire body of scientific knowledge.
