About
I've spent twenty-plus years in Asian equities, in every seat the industry offers. Ten years on the sell side at CLSA in Tokyo and Hong Kong, ranked Asiamoney #1 best analyst in the region five years running. Five years inside hedge funds — running my own book as a portfolio manager at Horizon, and most recently as a senior analyst on a Japan market-neutral pod at Millennium. In between, five years independent as founder, CIO and head of alternative investments: I launched a hedge-fund allocation practice for family offices, conducting due diligence on 100+ managers, then co-founded an asset management firm and took it through SFC licensing as its Responsible Officer, growing it from a private-equity and real-estate shop into a multi-strategy alternatives platform. Today I also design and build agentic-AI research workflows for my own global-equities portfolio. Born and raised in Hong Kong, educated in England, and lived in Japan for a decade. Native English and Cantonese, fluent Mandarin and Japanese.

Few coaches have sat in every seat of the equity research world. I spent a decade on the sell side at CLSA in Tokyo and Hong Kong, ranked Asiamoney #1 Best Analyst in Japan five years running — an award voted by the institutional clients every analyst must win. I then crossed to the buy side, running my own book as a portfolio manager and generating ideas on a Japan pod at Millennium, and founded an allocation practice that conducted due diligence on 100+ fund managers globally. I know first-hand how research is produced, consumed, judged and paid for — at every level of the industry. I've also developed people throughout that journey: leading CLSA's regional transport research team, co-founding an SFC-licensed asset manager, and mentoring analysts and associates along the way. And I'm still at the coalface — today I design AI-augmented research workflows in daily use, so my guidance reflects where this profession is heading, not where it's been. If you're serious about building a career in equity research, I've walked the full road ahead of you — let's talk about yours.

Why do I coach?
Because a coach changed my career before I understood what coaching was. As a junior analyst on the sell side, my firm paired me with a professional coach, and the difference it made to how I worked and carried myself is still with me twenty years on — it's where I learned what a good coach actually does, and what a mentee actually needs. Later, as a senior, I was coached again on the softer skills that decide who gets the seat, and throughout my career I coached analysts and associates myself and found I looked forward to it more than most of the job. Then life reshaped the reason. Surviving a serious illness, and coming through other hard seasons, changed why I work: I came out with a strong pull to give back, and with a conviction from my own recovery — that the people best placed to help you through this industry are the ones who have lived it, and almost none of the professionals I met had. Becoming a father to a young son sealed it; staying connected to the next generation now matters to me more than any title did. I coach because I enjoy it, and because I've sat on both sides of the table.
